CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Former Republican Minnesota Governor and presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty has endorsed retired Navy Cmdr. Dan Severson, who is running to represent Florida’s 19th Congressional district.
“Dan’s confirmed record of strong action, accomplishment and dedicated public service should give us all confidence about how he will serve and lead as a member of Congress,” Pawlenty said. “It is not often we have a chance to elect someone like Dan Severson to Congress. Please make the most of this opportunity and vote for Dan in the upcoming Republican primary on August 18th.”
Severson, who was a Top Gun fighter pilot in the Navy, served under Pawlenty as the minority whip in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2003-2011.
While serving as a state representative, Severson was known for fighting for strong family values, lower taxes, smaller government, pro-life issues, veteran benefits and judicial accountability.
In 2015, Severson relocated to Cape Coral, where he and his wife Cathy Jo live are active members at Life Church in Ft. Myers. During his service in the Navy, Severson also called Florida home, and he has been a Florida resident for more than 26 years.
Severson is the most ardent pro-gun supporter of the 2nd amendment running, and also a major proponent of legislation supporting servicemembers and veterans.
Florida’s 19th Congressional district covers Cape Coral, Ft. Myers, Marco Island and Naples.
Pawlenty served as governor of Minnesota from 2003-2011 and later ran for president in 2011. Pawlenty was later vetted to be Romney’s vice presidential running mate, before Romney ultimately decided on Paul Ryan.
